Truing alternatives

No single named vendor sells exactly what Truing sells: reconstructing box 12 codes TT and TP for pay periods an employer has already run. Here is what an employer actually gets from the four routes that do exist, quoted from each one's own page.

The advisory-firm route

Ryan, re-read live on 4 September 2026, advises on strategizing qualified overtime calculations and reporting going forward and drafting the communication a workforce needs. It publishes no price and addresses qualified overtime only, not code TP tips. It does not describe reconstructing a period already run.

The payroll-provider route

Warren Averett's own guidance routes QuickBooks users to Intuit's setup articles and tells every other employer to confirm with its payroll provider that the 2026 tracking categories exist and that codes TT and TP will be supported. Every branch is forward-looking: turning a category on going forward is not the same as reconstructing what already ran on a period before the category existed.

The local CPA route

A local CPA or bookkeeper can be asked to do this by hand from the payroll register. It is billed at the firm's own rate, which is not published anywhere this register could verify, and the result depends on how carefully that firm reads what counts as qualified overtime and what counts as a qualified tip, the two questions that decide the number.

The DIY route: read the Notice yourself

IRS Notice 2025-69 and the General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 are free to read and are the primary source every guide on this page, including Truing's own, is built from. What free reading does not do is apply the rules to a specific payroll register for a specific business across periods already run; that adjudication is the work, not the text.

Where Truing fits

Truing reconstructs codes TT and TP for periods already run, from the payroll register you already have, at $3 an employee with a $99 minimum, one-time. Who can actually reconstruct this goes through all five named positions in full, and the comparison hub puts them on one grid.

Every position above is quoted from the named firm's own published page, dated, and described as a difference in scope, never in quality. Nothing here is tax advice.
